Recently I had an opportunity to see musical „Wiedźmin” in Musial Theatre in Gdynia and then afterwards the whole season of Netflix „The Witcher”. Herewith are my impressions, but before I start I would like to recall one of my remembrance.
Hardly anyone remembers that the first film adaptation of the Sapkowski novel „Wiedźmin” was Polish movie released in 2001. During that time I had student’s practice (I was studying Multimedia) in a small advertising agency called „ArtPN”. This small company (only 5 people) was involved in creating special effects to this famous movie. My job among the others – like creating website for this company as well as simple IT support, was also learning 3DMaxStudio and writing plugins in langauge called MaxScript. At the begginig it was just playing around this specific language, but then I discovered that it could enhance internal mechanism of 3DMaxStudio – particles.
Particles acc. to Wikipedia:
„In the physical sciences, a particle (or corpuscule in older texts) is a small localized object to which can be ascribed several physical or chemical properties such as volume, density or mass.[1][2] They vary greatly in size or quantity, from subatomic particles like the electron, to microscopic particles like atoms and molecules, to macroscopic particles like powders and other granular materials. Particles can also be used to create scientific models of even larger objects depending on their density, such as humans moving in a crowd or celestial bodies in motion.”
In 3DMaxStudio particles can be used for creating i.e. fireworks, raindrops, huge flames of fire or just simple „magic”.
My script was easy – it multiplied the values of chosen particle. It used either simple multiplication or for random particles square the value of it.
This was used to render smoke particles that hovered above the burning castle in Malbork. So when you see the scene with burning castle of Malbork – that is the tiny piece of my work.

I was impressed by the musical – I would love to see it again. And herewith – the musical trailer:
